Our Mission:

What We Do
The Emergency Medical Response Group (EMeRG) is a student-run organization providing free emergency medical evaluation, treatment, and transport to the George Washington University community and surrounding areas. Since its founding in 1996, EMeRG has grown to operate two ambulances and a quick response vehicle, all staffed by a diverse team of Nationally Registered EMTs. Our volunteers dedicate countless hours to ensuring consistent, high-quality prehospital care for students, faculty, staff, and our neighbors.
Administration
Leadership and Administration
EMeRG is led by dedicated student officers and GWU staff working together to provide the best possible care to our community.
Supervisor Council:
Elected annually for their commitment and experience, the supervisor council manages recruitment, training, equipment, special events, scheduling, and daily operations, balancing these duties with their studies.
Roles are:
• Supervisor for Operations
• Supervisor for Quality Assurance
• Supervisor for Training
• Supervisor for Special Operations
Executive Board:
Our Executive Board is a team of dedicated student leaders committed to advancing our organization's mission. Through leadership, collaboration, and service, they organize events, support members, manage operations, and create valuable educational and professional opportunities for all participants.
Roles are:
• President
• Secretary
• Human Resources
•Public Relations
• Community Education
EMeRG Manager:
A full-time GWU staff member who works directly with EMeRG, who provides overall leadership, guidance, and serves as a liaison with local EMS and university departments. The primary administrative oversight and lead operational/clinical supervisor for EMeRG.

EMeRG Manager:

On shift crew
The on-duty crew consists of all Nationally Registered EMTs. The crew consists of a crew chief, a driver, and two attendants. While on duty, each crew member carries a radio. Crews are dispatched by the GWU police department's dispatch system. Crews can also pick up or attach themselves to calls in the surrounding area. Our Foggy Bottom station is located across from Funger Hall at 2145 G St NW.
Crew Chief
The crew chief has the following requirements and credentials:
- Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician
- Must hold a DC EMS Certification
- BLS/CPR Certification
- Valid Driver's License
- Holds the role of EMT II or EMT III
Driver
The driver has the following requirements and credentials:
- Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician
- Must hold a DC EMS Certification
- BLS/CPR Certification
- Valid Driver's License
- Holds the role of EMT I, EMT II, or EMT III
Attendant
Each crew consists of up to two attendants. There are two stages within the attendant role: probationary attendant and attendant.
During their first semester with the agency, members serve as probationary attendants. In this role, they are required to attend weekly continuing education meetings, where they develop their clinical skills, gain operational experience, and learn EMeRG-specific protocols and procedures.
Upon successfully completing the requirements of their probationary semester, members advance to the role of attendant. As attendants, members are fully integrated into EMeRG operations and continue to provide high-quality emergency medical care to the campus community.
