David Fifer became the EMeRG Coordinator in April 2009. He brings nearly eight years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician in Virginia and Kentucky. He currently holds National EMS Certification as an EMT. Fifer earned a B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, where he concentrated in advanced EMS studies including agency management and acute clinical care. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, he has been recognized by its local fire and EMS services for outstanding performance.
Fifer served in a variety of leadership positions at Eastern Kentucky University, where his work focused on campus safety initiatives and strengthening student leadership and engagement. He served two terms as Student Body President and a member of the Board of Regents of that institution, and served as the chair of a state-wide consortium of student leaders. For his leadership and contributions to Kentucky, the Governor awarded him that state’s highest civilian honor. Most recently, Fifer worked in operations and administration at the Supreme Court of the United States.
As the EMeRG Coordinator, Fifer provides the primary administrative, operational and clinical oversight for EMeRG. He oversees day to day operations of the group, as well as providing supervision to the the Assistant Coordinators in their various areas. He is responsible for the fiscal management of the group. In addition, Fifer oversees the University's Public Access Defibrillation Program, coordinating maintenance of over 160 AEDs over GW's three campuses, as well as running GW's American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) Training Center, which provides free CPR/AED instructional services to the GW community
Daniel Goldberg is a senior at GW’s School of Business, where he is majoring in Business Administration, with dual concentrations in both Finance and Marketing. He also holds a Secondary Field of Study in Emergency Health Services. Originally from Westchester County, NY, Danny has been involved in pre-hospital emergency care for over five years; his prior EMS experience includes Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Rye Playland EMS, and Greenburgh Police/Paramedics.
As the Assistant Coordinator for Training and Continuing Education, Danny provides oversight of EMeRG’s clinical operations. It is Danny’s responsibility to ensure that our EMTs provide the highest possible level of care to our patients. He guides members through the elevation process, and is responsible for coordinating both the initial training academy for new members, as well as the continuing medical education for all current members. In addition to working for EMeRG, Danny is an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and also plays the drums for GW's student theatre. Upon graduation, Danny hopes to get involved in the financial management of funds, while remaining involved in EMS as much as possible.
James Betz has responsibility for performing and coordinating EMeRG's quality assurance and quality improvement program. On a week to week basis James reviews all of the patient care charts written after each call to ensure that EMeRG is performing to the highest standards of care. James also reviews the documentation for provider-specific and global trends where EMeRG can improve. By contributing to the continuing education program, James works to further the education of EMeRG providers and improve provider performance. James has been a NREMT-B since 2005 and an EMeRG member since Spring of 2006. He has served in a variety of roles including the QA Officer. He is a Field Training Officer within the organization. James has also worked as an Emergency Department Technician in the GW Hospital since 2006. He is currently a senior and expects to graduate with a BS in Exercise Science in 2009.
Brett Reidmiller has responsibility for ensuring the smooth operation of EMeRG on a day to day basis. His main focus is ensuring adequate levels of supplies, and maintaining vital equipment such as AEDs, radios, and EMeRG's quick response vehicle and ambulance. Brett has been a volunteer EMT with his hometown ambulance squad for Six years. At GWU, Brett is a super-senior studying in the field of biomedical engineering and plans to pursue further medical education upon graduation in 2009.
Dinora Fitzgerald is a junior majoring in Psychology with a double minor in Biology and Sociocultural Anthropology and is interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Dinora became certified as an EMT-B in Pennsylvania the summer before her Freshman year and joined EMeRG that spring. As the Assistant Coordinator for Administration, Dinora's main responsibilities include making sure that the EMeRG office remains habitable and maintaining past and and current member's files, including the administrative and certification process for all members. Oustide of EMS, Dinora also works as a House Proctor and a Chemistry Tutor.
Tiffany Wong is a senior majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Chinese Language and Literature. She plans on attending GW's School of Medicine and Health Sciences after graduating (if all goes according to plan). Tiffany currently works at the US Naval Resarch Laboratory as a research assistant in the materials science branch, the Worldwide Emergency Communications Center as part of the Medical Faculty Associates, and as a tutor for GW in chemistry (even organic!). As Assistant Coordinator for Staffing and Special Events, Tiffany is the one who constructs the duty schedule each month and assigns people to staff special events including basketball games and CPR classes.
Meredith Ferfolia is a senior majoring in Exercise Science with a Pre-Health Professional Concentration. After graduation, Meredith plans to attend a graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner; she is considering clinical specialization in Family Medicine and Public Health. Meredith enjoys working as a nursing assistant at the University Hospitals of Cleveland on a cardiac telemetry floor during school breaks. She took the EMT-B course offered by GW during her sophomore year and joined EMeRG in Fall 2008. As AC for Public Relations, Meredith is responsible for EMeRG's external communications with the press and other individuals looking for more information about the organization. She helps to plan several events during the school year, including EMS Day (Spring Semester), and also coordinates EMeRG's attendance at various community health events.
Jacob Washofsky is a junior majoring in International Affairs with dual concentrations in Middle Eastern Studies and Conflict and Security. He plans on studying abroad in the near future in Amman, Jordan following which he wants to backpack across Ireland to unwind from the Middle East. Jake plans on working for the US Government when he finishes college but will continue volunteering in his community as an EMT. With no background in EMS before coming to school, other than having his 5th birthday at the firestation, Jake enrolled in the EMT-Basic course offered through the Emergency Health Services department at GW in his first semester. Jake joined EMeRG in early 2008 and later that year was one of the first to become an Emergency Driver. Jake now holds the rank of Charge EMT/ Emergency Driver within EMeRG and his responsibilities as Assistant Coordinator include coordinating alumni relations, planning and implementing semi-annual recruitment drives with the Assistant Coordinator of Public Relations, and facilitating intra-agency communication and events. During the day, Jacob works for the US Department of Justice, Office of Intergovernmental and Public Liaison. Jake enjoys saving lives, watching baseball in the summer, Dane Cook announcing that "There's only ONE October", and moonlit walks on the beach.
