How much does a ride from EMeRG cost?
EMeRG services are completely free of cost to both GWU students and non-GWU students. There is no cost for a medical evaluation, treatment, or transportation to the hospital. However, EMeRG is an emergency medical service and should only be used for medical emergencies. For non-emergency medical concerns, patients should contact their healthcare provider or visit an urgent care center.
Can EMeRG transport people to the hospital?
Yes! EMeRG primarily transfers to the George Washington Hospital, but can also transport to surrounding hospitals under specific circumstances.
Does EMeRG report drug and alcohol related calls to the university?
No. Our providers' primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients. EMeRG maintains patient confidentiality and focuses on providing appropriate medical care, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the emergency. We encourage individuals to seek medical assistance when needed without fear of disciplinary action from EMeRG. However, certain situations may require coordination with other emergency services or university officials when there is an immediate threat to the safety of the patient or others. Do applicants need to be nationally registered emts before applying to emerg?
No. Applicants do not need to have their NREMT when applying to EMeRG. They do need to have their NREMT before the start of new member training, which happens 8 calendar days before the upcoming semester.
Is EMeRG Available 24/7?
Yes. EMeRG provides emergency medical services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the academic year. Our crews are on call and ready to respond to medical emergencies on campus, ensuring that students, faculty, staff, and visitors have access to timely emergency care whenever it is needed.
What is the time commitment?
The new member process requires students to be available at least 8 calendar days before the start of the semester in which they are accepted. They are also required to attend weekly continuing member education meetings. Shifts are tailored to the typical class schedule, meaning there are shifts as short as 3 hours.
